Color Match
Build a smart palette around one color
Start with the color you already have or choose one with Edit color. Pick a vibe, see the ten-color match in the example below, then export it or continue in Studio.
Changes update automatically. Qolorio balances colors by how light, vivid and warm or cool they appear, then checks text against its background. How perceptual color works
See the balance, not just the swatches
Roughly half the composition stays open background; the other half shows a surface, text, controls, borders and smaller accents in more realistic proportions.
Text on the page background stays readable while the stronger colors are used in smaller, intentional amounts.
A related surface separates content without becoming a second page background.
Save the composition as a moodboard
Choose up to three color-code formats and export the full match as SVG, PNG or PDF.
What does Color Match do?
Sometimes the difficult part is not finding a color.
It is figuring out what should live around it.
Color Match starts with one color and builds a practical ten-color match around it. It suggests readable text, backgrounds, surfaces, borders, accents and supporting colors while keeping your starting color at the center.
Change the color, choose a different Vibe or set your own background and the match updates automatically.
The starting color stays the starting point.
One color. Great company.
Choose the direction
A useful match depends on what you want the design to feel like.
Choose a Vibe to nudge the supporting colors in a different direction:
- Balanced
- Calm
- Bold
- Warm
- Cool
- Elegant
- Playful
- Minimal
- Muted
- Vibrant
- Moody
- Earthy
- Fresh
- Luxury
- Retro
Each Vibe changes the relationships around your starting color without replacing the color you brought in.
Not sure what a Vibe does? Use About the vibes to see how each direction changes the match.
Same anchor. Different atmosphere.
Use your own background
Color Match can create a background automatically, but sometimes the background is already decided.
Enter or choose your own Background when you need the match to work around an existing page, brand or project color.
Qolorio then recalculates the related surface, readable text and structural colors around that background while keeping your original starting color in the system.
Clear the custom background whenever you want to return to the automatic suggestion.
Start with what is fixed. Build around it.
What does Qolorio suggest?
Color Match creates ten connected roles around your starting point.
Starting color
The color you brought in. It remains the anchor for the match.
Text on starting color
A readable black or white text color chosen for use directly on your starting color.
Background
A quieter foundation for the overall design. You can use Qolorio’s suggestion or choose your own.
Surface
A related layer for cards, panels and grouped content that needs separation from the main background.
Text on background
A readable text color for the generated or selected background.
Border / divider
A structural color for edges, separators and subtle visual boundaries.
Accent
A stronger color that moves further away from the starting hue to create useful distinction.
Text on accent
A readable foreground color for use directly on the accent.
Contrast partner
A chromatic color designed to create a strong visual relationship with the starting color.
Supporting accent
A smaller secondary accent that adds another useful point of interest without competing with the main colors.
These are suggestions, not rules.
A project may use the complete match, a few roles or only one good idea from the result.
Keep the useful part. Ignore the rest.
See the colors in use
Swatches tell you which colors exist. They do not always tell you whether the balance feels right.
The In use preview places the match into a simple composition with background, surface, text, controls, borders and smaller accents.
This makes it easier to see which colors should occupy a lot of space and which work better in smaller amounts.
You can also change the preview typography. Let Qolorio match it automatically to the selected Vibe or explore directions such as Modern, Editorial, Technical, Geometric, Humanist, Luxury, Industrial, Digital, Poster, Playful, Vintage and Minimal.
The preview is not a finished design. It is a quick way to judge the relationships before you take the colors further.
See the balance, not just the swatches.
Use contrast as information
Color Match checks important foreground and background text relationships and shows contrast values where readability matters most.
You will see contrast information for:
- text on your starting color;
- text on the background;
- text on the accent.
These checks help you understand whether those specific text pairs have enough separation.
They do not mean the complete color match is automatically accessible.
Final accessibility still depends on the actual foreground and background combinations, text size and weight, interface states and how color is used in context.
Use the Color Contrast Checker when you want to inspect a specific foreground and background pair in more detail.
Export the match
Found a combination worth keeping?
Color Match can turn the result into a visual reference you can take into the rest of your workflow.
Choose up to three color-code formats from:
HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV / HSB, HWB, CMYK, Lab, LCH, OKLab and OKLCH.
Then export the complete match as:
- SVG Match Board
- PNG Moodboard
- PDF Color Match
- color codes
The visual exports preserve the composition as a useful reference instead of leaving you with a collection of unrelated swatches.
Find the direction. Keep the system.
Take it into Qolorio’s Color Studio
Found a direction worth developing?
Choose Use in Studio to bring the suggested colors into Color Studio.
From there you can assign semantic roles, change what does not work, preview the system in real designs, test important contrast relationships and use the wider production export options.
Color Match helps you find useful company for one color.
Color Studio is where you can turn that direction into a complete working color system.
One color can be enough to begin.
